]]>As all travel guides on the list there published by Lonely Planet I checked LP site and found a little bit different list, but in the first place still was USA:
Ok, lets go further as there are more big travel guide publishers and it is interesting to see their lists.
Here is Top 5 Rough Guide most popular destinations:
And the last is DK Eyewitness Top 5 list:
I was having problems with DK Eyewitness best sellers, as they don’t have Top lists on their site, so checked best sellers in Travel Reference Guidebooks on Amazon. But because Amazon has regional web site it is difficult to see global best sellers list, as the list on amazon.com will be different comparing to amazon.ca or amazon.co.uk. So I think because I was checking amazon.com is the reason why there is no USA on the list.
So the leaders this year (2011/2012) are USA, France, China. Surprisingly there is no any South American or African country. Will be interesting to see changes next year.

]]>You probably already bought all travel guides you need if you going to Australia, New Zealand or other pacific Islands. But what if you need to buy additional guides during your trip? For some reasons most books in Australia or New Zealand are twice expensive then in US. For example Lonely Planet Australia cost 19$US, but you’ll find it for almost 50$AU(or 45$US by today currency exchange rate) in Australian book stores. I am not planning on going into details why it is such big difference, but I want to show you a way how to save on buying books in Australia or New Zealand. Only thing you need to do – subscribe to Borders Australia or Borders New Zealand news letters. Every week Borders sends some discount deals like in picture above. Sometime ago they were sending deals up to 50%, but didn’t see such discounts for awhile. In any case 30% savings it is still a good deal as I am sure you’ll find where to spend spear money.

]]>Planning trip to Australia, New Zealand or some islands in South Pacific? You can get free visitor guides or maps from Jasons.
Although it is not totally free if you reside outside Australia or New Zealand. If this is the case you will need to pay for postage.
You may ask why do you need any of these publications if you already have Lonely Planet or Rough Guide or similar guide? Of course it is up to you, but these mentioned above books usually takes about two years to publish which means a lot of things can be different now. Jasons publications are updated every year so you can expect to get latest information about attractions, accommodation, transportation and etc. Maps are not very detailed and better to be used only as references, although I was happy with map of Samoa I used to drive around islands.
At the moment of this post they have visitor guides and/or maps of Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Niue, Norfolk Island, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu, part of Australia and New Zealand. But they update this list regularly, so check it later again.
Some of these guide could be found at i-sites or airports in New Zealand. Didn’t see them available in Australia (at least in Sydney) in information centres.
