At what time you been in Kakadu? During wet season? I didn’t have problems in campgrounds except mozzies of course. Especially in campground near East Alligator.

BTW after my trip to Tasmania I don’t think entry to Kakadu NP is very expensive. In Tasmania entry to any National Park cost $24 per car. If you travel alone it sums. Of course it is possible to by National Parks Pass for $60.

I liked Kakadu for the rock drawings, but the mozzies drove me insane! The problem was exasperated by the local campgrounds constantly watering their lawns, creating a massive breeding ground for them!!
