Departure fee – most annoying thing in New Zealand

In the last 3 years I have been on and off New Zealand for may be 10 times. I always had great time out there, but there is one thing which really annoys me every time I come to airport to catch my out bound flight from New Zealand. It is departure fee. For all international departures you need to pay departure tax (currently it is 25$NZ).
It looks a small charge comparing with amount of money you already spent in the country. That is the thing I can’t understand – they collect so much taxes from all tourist industry, as it is expensive country to travel, and it is still not enough and they just want to ruin all your wonderful experience about New Zealand. Small thing, but I am sure it will be remembered by most of tourists. Especially all whose long queues to pay that fee.

Gladly at least in Auckland airport you don’t need to pay this fee, but keep 25$NZ in you pocket if you are flying out from any other airport in New Zealand.

So be sure to read your travel insurance documents very carefully
to see where you stand, and whether your insurer has a way out of covering your costs. You’ll also want to be clear on the exact process for making a claim, as this can differ from insurer to insurer.

Travel insurance makes you feel a little bit more comfortable on your trip. Especially on long one. But did you ever read full fine print of your travel insurance? Doesn’t matter you are covered by your credit card insurance or you are buying separate coverage in either case find a minute and read it.

Latest events related with eruption of volcano in Island shows you should be very careful with choosing travel insurer as some companies were deeming the event an ”unforeseen act of God” and refusing to cover expenses. But that is one of reason people are buying insurance – to get some help when something unexpected happens. Why would I need travel insurance otherwise?

So very carefully read your travel insurance policy, all exceptions and may be it is worth to pay couple $ more and get proper coverage in stead of getting cheapest available travel insurance policy which doesn’t cover so much as you would expect.

How much cost taxi from Kathmandu airport to city

It won’t be problem get to your hotel or guest house from Kathmandu airport even if you didn’t arrange transfer, as there are plenty of taxis waiting for you. But how much does it cost? The first price you’ll hear will be about 1000 Nepalese rupees (NPR). It doesn’t sound much if convert that amount to Euros or US$, but for taxi drivers it will be a fortune. There is no fixed fee, so if you don’t like price, just go ask another driver. It should cost 200-300NPR max to get to Thamel from airport. Or sometimes even cheaper – especially if your flight is one of latest and taxi drivers don’t want go empty back from airport, as shortly won’t be any passengers left.
